Biography

Family and Early Years

Clarice Medici was born in Florence. In some sources, the year of her birth is 1493 or September 2, 1489. But in the book of records of church acts, the record made on the day of the baptism of Clarice allows us to consider the exact date of her birth on September 14, 1489. She was the daughter of Pierrot Stupid and Alfonsina Orsini . On the paternal side was the granddaughter of the head of the Florentine Republic, Lorenzo the Magnificent and Clarice Orsini , in whose honor she was named. On the maternal side was the granddaughter of Count Roberto Orsini and Caterina . In addition to her parents had a son Lorenzo , the future duke of Urbino and the father of Catherine de Medici, Queen of France [1] [2] [3] .

Marriage and offspring

In 1508, Clarice Medici married Filippo Strozzi and moved to Rome , where at that time the popes of the Medici clan dominated. Her marriage with a representative of the house of Strozzi caused discontent among Piero Soderini , the gonfalonier of the Florentine Republic , who planned to marry Claricz one of his nephews [4] . After the untimely death of her brother, she took custody and raised his minor daughter, Caterina Medici, the future Queen of France.

Clarice Medici died on May 5, 1528 in Florence.

In the family of Filippo Strozzi and Clarice Medici, seven sons and three daughters were born.

  • Piero Strozzi (d. 1558), condottier, married Laudomy di Pierfranchesko de Medici;
