Biography
Born October 27, 1919 in Metkovic. He graduated from elementary school and two classes of high school in his hometown, after which he moved with his family to Zagreb, where he graduated from the 3rd and 4th grades of high school. In 1936 he entered vocational school, but due to a serious illness, he graduated from it only in 1941. The school was carried away by the ideas of communism, which the school leadership actively promoted. In the same 1936 he was admitted to the SKJU, from 1939 to 1941 he was engaged in propaganda and recruitment of new volunteers to the party. He founded the cultural and educational society "Technician". In 1941 he was admitted to the Communist Party of Yugoslavia.
After the invasion of the Germans in the country and the declaration of independence of Croatia, Kresho went into the partisan underground. He became the organizer of anti-fascist resistance among schoolchildren: in Zagreb, he was the initiator of the distribution of anti-German and anti-Ustash leaflets and appeals. He led the strike group, organized permanent sabotage in Zagreb. In mid-July, he organized the escape of prisoners from the Kerestinets concentration camp, and with his participation, the arson of the Zagreb stadium was organized in order to leave the oustash without building material. In early August, Rakich participated in a skirmish near a botanical garden with 28 Ustashs, throwing them with grenades. In September, a German bus with garrison soldiers was fired at by his group on Zvonimirova Street. In addition to conducting military operations, Kresho actively recruited new volunteers.
On November 22, 1941, at the corner of Kvaternik Avenue and Heinz Avenue, Kresho was arrested with four accomplices and sent to a police station. During the arrest, he tried to blow himself up with a grenade, but the police managed to grab her from Kresho’s hands and neutralize her. During the torture, Rakic refused to extradite his accomplices and plead guilty to organized sabotage. In early December, he was exiled along with 17 comrades to a training ground near Rakov Potok near Zagreb, where he was shot. Date of death remained unknown.
July 23, 1952 was posthumously awarded the title of People's Hero of Yugoslavia.
