Olfactory brain diagram
The olfactory brain ( Latin rhinencephalon ) is a combination of a number of structures of the terminal brain associated with olfaction .
Structure
The olfactory brain is divided into peripheral and central parts.
The peripheral part consists of:
- Olfactory bulb ( lat.bulbus olfactorius )
- Olfactory tract ( lat.tractus olfactorius )
- Olfactory triangle ( lat.trigonum olfactorium )
- Medial olfactory gyrus ( lat.hyrus olfactorius medialis )
- Lateral olfactory gyrus ( lat.hyrus olfactorius lateralis )
- The olfactory area ( Latin area parolfactoria )
- Anterior perforated substance ( Latin substantia perforate anterior )
The central part includes:
- Vaulted gyrus ( Latin: gyrus fornicatus ) (consists of three gyruses: cingulate gyrus, isthmus and parahippocampal gyrus)
- Hippocampus hook (seahorse hook) ( lat.uncus hippocampi )
- Jagged gyrus ( lat.hyrus dentatus )
- Gray cover ( lat.indusium griseum )
- Hippocampus ( lat.hippocampus )
