Origin

Parents: Ivan Nikolaevich Khokhlov, Ph.D., associate professor of the Institute VZIIT (Moscow), art critic, author of an article on the work of S. T. Konenkov , with whom he was personally acquainted. Mother Regina Yuryevna Khokhlova (nee Snegireva) is the granddaughter of Professor V.F. Snegirev .

Biography

Ivan Khokhlov began to paint at the age of three. He studied at the children's art studio (1957-1959) with the teacher V. A. Voronin. The first publication of Ivan Khokhlov - the drawing "Artists on the Moon" - in the magazine " Murzilka " in 1959. At the age of 14, he suffered severe polio . He graduated from high school No. 145 with a gold medal.

In 1966, Ivan Khokhlov entered the Moscow Polygraphic Institute as a graphic artist, graphic designer, and graduated in 1972. On the recommendations of A. Sidorov, D. Bisti and M. Alpatov, he was admitted to the "adult" section of the Moscow Union of Artists in 1973. The development of the artist was influenced by the masters of Russian iconography - Feofan Grek , Andrei Rublev , Dionysius ; Russian artists of the early 20th century - M. Kandinsky, A. Filonov, M. Vrubel, western - S. Boticelli, A. Modigliani, P. Brueghel, I. Bosch, S. Dali [1] .

From 1972 to 1992, Ivan Khokhlov worked at the Combine of Graphic Arts (KGI), where he created 87 colored linocuts on the themes of Russian folk and European fairy tales and his own fairy tale in the pictures "Funny Gnomes", which was published in the publishing house "Ilexa" in 1997 . All these years he collaborated with Moscow publishing houses (Children's Book, Contemporary, Youth, Detgiz , Soviet Artist), where books and articles with his illustrations were published. Khokhlov's color linocuts in the 80s were exhibited in the countries of Southeast Asia, Latin America, and Europe.

Khokhlov’s paintings are in museums in Russia (the Museum of Artem, the Museum of the History of Moscow, the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of the Moscow City Council), in private collections of M. Rostropovich (five paintings from different series), Ch.Aitmatov (portrait of Father Alexander Me presented to Aitmatov along with the prize “For Connection in Culture”, Dusseldorf, 1998), G. Uranov, A. Shokhin. Abroad - in America, Canada, Japan, Australia, Germany. In England, A. McGeorge has the largest collection of paintings in the Tree of Life series in Europe. 87 colored linocuts were donated by the artist of the Shushenskaya Picture Gallery. From these engravings a traveling exhibition was compiled, which traveled through Siberia for many years. In 2004, the artist presented the city of Bazarny Karabulak, Saratov Region, with 15 colored linocuts for the museum of local lore, where a separate room was allocated for this exhibition and drawing lessons were held. In 1996, the Cultural Foundation bought from the artist a picture from the series “Remembering Brueghel” [2] .

Between 1992 and 2002, 19 personal exhibitions of the artist’s works took place in Moscow [3] .
