Biography
E.A. von Eberstein came from a Franconian baronial family. From the age of 11 he is raised by his maternal uncle, a former lieutenant general of the Dutch army, and lives in the Netherlands. In the retinue of Uncle von Eberstein takes long trips. In November 1620, he witnesses the Battle of White Mountain . Then he was a page with Counts von Mansfeld and Stolberg.
Since 1623, von Eberstein has been directly involved in the events of the Thirty Years War. At first he served in the army with Tilly , and since 1625 - in the Swedish troops.
Since 1630, von Eberstein has been a chamberlain with the Duke of Saxe-Weimar , William .
In 1632, he was a major in the army of the Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel Wilhelm V and fights against the imperial and Spanish troops.
Since 1637, von Eberstein was again in Swedish service, with Field Marshal Johan Banner .
In 1643, he transferred to the service of the Duke of Hesse-Darmstadt and became commandant of the Giessen fortress. In 1646, he became lieutenant general and fought against the Swedish and Hessian-Kassel troops. In 1648, von Eberstein was awarded the rank of Field Marshal of the Imperial Army.
After the conclusion of the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, von Eberstein left for his estates in Thuringia.
Since 1657 he has been in Denmark, where as a royal field marshal he fights against the Swedish troops. Together with his rival in Danish service, also Field-Marshal of German origin Hans von Schack , von Eberstein in November 1659 managed to defeat the Swedish army at the Battle of Nyborg .
Later he was in the rank of Field Marshal in the Saxon service, was a member of the Saxon Privy and Military Councils. Since 1665 he lives alone in his possessions in Thuringia.
