Biography
Born in the village of Kashmashi of the Akramovsky volost of the Kozmodemyansky district of the Kazan province (now the Syatrakassky rural settlement of Morgaushsky district of Chuvashia ) in a peasant family.
In 1929 he graduated from the Department of Language and Literature of the Institute of Oriental Studies in Kazan, and then in 1934 - graduate school of the Research Institute of Nationalities (Moscow). Already in the 1930s, the young scientist published his articles on linguistics, the method of school teaching of the Chuvash language in the newspaper Kanash, various Moscow journals .
In 1934 he began working at the Chuvash State Pedagogical Institute , led the language sector at the Institute . He took part in the preparation for the publication of a number of volumes of the fundamental 17-volume "Dictionary of the Chuvash language" N. I. Ashmarin .
From 1958 he worked in Moscow at the Russian Language Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
In 1963 he defended his doctoral thesis "Essays on the vocabulary of Old Slavonic writing . "
He studied the monuments of Slavic and Russian literature, etymology , studied the Tale of Bygone Years . Often spoke in both domestic and foreign scientific sessions, published in foreign scientific journals and collections.
