Biography

Ivan Gorchakov was born on June 12, 1922 in the village of Pyeldino (now the Sysolsky District of the Komi Republic ) into a working family. In 1940, he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In May 1942 he graduated from the Far Eastern Artillery School. Since February 1943 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He took part in the battles on the Central and 1st Belorussian fronts. By October 1944, Senior Lieutenant Ivan Gorchakov commanded the battery of the 997th anti-aircraft artillery regiment of the 12th anti-aircraft artillery division of the 65th Army of the 1st Belorussian Front. Distinguished during the liberation of Poland [1] .

On October 4, 1944, during the battles to hold the bridgehead on the western bank of the Narev River in the area of ​​the village of Dzbanice north of Serotsk , when more than 30 enemy tanks, with the support of the infantry, launched a counterattack against the Gorchakov battery, the gunners destroyed 7 tanks and a large number of enemy soldiers and officers holding the bridgehead [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 21, 1945, for “exemplary performance of the command missions at the front of the battle against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown”, Senior Lieutenant Ivan Gorchakov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal Star ” under number 4957 [1] .

In 1946, with the rank of captain, Gorchakov was transferred to the reserve. Since June of the same year he worked as the head of the personnel department of a shoe factory in the city of Ishim of the Tyumen Region , and since August 1947 he was the director of a fashion studio in Tyumen . Since March 1948, Gorchakov served in the bodies of the MGB / KGB of the USSR. In 1950, he graduated from the Leningrad MGB School, in 1952 he graduated in absentia from Leningrad State University . Since May 1954, Gorchakov served in the military counterintelligence agencies. He retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel . He lived in St. Petersburg , was engaged in social activities. He died on February 26, 2004, was buried at the Krasnenky cemetery in St. Petersburg [1] .

He was also awarded the orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st and 2nd degrees, the Order of the Red Star , as well as a number of medals [1] .
