Biography
Nikolai Gorodnichev was born on August 28, 1915 in Omsk in the family of an employee. He received a secondary education, he studied at the Astrakhan Road College. He worked as an electric welder. In 1934, Gorodnichev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In 1937 he graduated from the Stalingrad Military Aviation Pilot School. Since the beginning of World War II - on its fronts. He took part in battles on the Western and Kalinin fronts, repeatedly led groups of aircraft into battle, without having any personnel losses [1] .
By December 1941, Major Nikolai Gorodnichev was deputy squadron commander of the 5th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment of the Kalinin Front. By that time, he had completed 180 sorties. In the course of 46 attacks, Gorodnichev destroyed 12 aircraft, 25 motor vehicles with cargoes, 10 tanks with fuel, 20 firing points. Took part in 27 air battles, shooting down 7 enemy aircraft in person and 2 in a group [2] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated May 5, 1942, Major Nikolai Gorodnichev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 615 [1] .
Since 1942, Gorodnichev studied at the Air Force Academy . Tragically died during the flight on March 1, 1943 , in which he was flying a passenger. He was buried in Sol-Iletsk [1] .
He was awarded two Orders of Lenin (11/3/1941, 05/05/1942), the Order of the Red Star (11/3/1941) [1] .
