Biography
Born August 13, 1919 in the village. Gnilusha (now - Gorovoye in the Krasnogvardeysky district of the Belgorod region) in a peasant family. Russian . Graduated 9 classes. He worked on the collective farm "Precepts of Ilyich."
In the Red Army since September 1939. On the front in the Great Patriotic War - from January 1942. Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1943.
The assistant platoon commander of the 550th rifle regiment, senior sergeant Vasily Gorovoy, in a battle for the city of Königsberg on April 8, 1945, with two soldiers, entered the rear of one of the enemy’s defended barricades, suddenly opened fire on the enemy with a light machine gun. For two hours, the warriors fought with the enemy, diverting considerable of his strength. The bold actions of the warriors made it possible by storm to seize this barrier to regimental units.
After the war, foreman Gorovoy was demobilized. In 1948 he graduated from the regional party school. From 1949 he worked as chairman of the Krasnogvardeisky District Council.
V. S. Gorovoy died in June 1950 .
Awards
- The title of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded on April 19, 1945 .
- He was awarded the Order of Lenin and medals, including the medal "For Courage".
Memory
- The name of the Hero is his native village.
- The house in which he lived is a historical monument [1] .
- A memorial plaque is installed on the school building of the village of Novokhutornoe, where he studied.
