Content
Geographical position
The city is located in the west of the island of Sumatra , on the coast of the Indian Ocean . The absolute height is 21 meters above sea level [1] .
Pariaman is located approximately 40 kilometers northwest of Padang , the provincial capital.
Administrative Division
The territory of the municipality of Pariaman is administratively divided into four districts ( kecamatan ), which in turn are divided into 16 rural settlements ( kelurahan ). The total area of the municipality is 73.36 km².
Population
According to the 2010 official census , the population was 59,728 people [2] . The dynamics of the population of the city by years:

The national composition is dominated by representatives of the Minangkabau ethnic group .
Transport
The nearest airport is located in the city of Padang [1] . There is a railway connection with Padang.
Economics
Most of the economically active population of the city is employed in the service sector . Also in Pariaman are enterprises of the chemical industry and metallurgy . Traditionally, agriculture (especially rice farming ) is of great importance. Rice fields occupy more than 30% of the total area of the municipality.
