Biography
Born in 1916 in the village of Osipovo, now Liozno district of the Vitebsk region of Belarus, in a peasant family. Russian
Before the war he lived in the Svobodnensky district of the Amur Region.
He was drafted into the Red Army by the Svobodnensky RVK in 1941. On the fronts of World War II - from March 1942. Member of the CPSU (b) since 1942.
The gun commander of the 597th artillery regiment, senior sergeant Timofei Gornov, breaking through the enemy’s defense near the village of Potomulene (Kaunas district of the Lithuanian SSR) on July 29, 1944, destroyed the observation post and 5 enemy machine guns. During the period of battles from August 7 to 17, 1944, his calculation destroyed 3 tanks, an assault gun and a large number of Nazis.
He died in battle on October 23, 1944. He was buried in the mass grave of the village of Babushkino, now the village of the Nesterovsky district of the Kaliningrad region. At this place in 1975, a memorial complex was installed by the sculptor V.V. Morgunov [1] .
Rewards
- The title of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded on March 24, 1945 .
- He was awarded the Orders of Lenin and the Red Star, as well as medals.
Memory
- The name of T. Ya. Gornov was given to an eight-year school in the village of Osipovo, in which he studied; a memorial plaque was installed on the school building [2] .
- The name of the Hero is a fishing trawler .
- By order of the Government of the Kaliningrad Region dated March 23, 2007 No. 132, the memorial complex on the mass grave of Soviet soldiers received the status of an object of cultural heritage of local (municipal) significance [3] .
