He was a full professor, head of the department of chemistry and pharmacy at the University of Dorpat. He was one of the initiators of the creation of the first pharmaceutical institute in Russia at the University of Dorpat.
On December 13, 1833, Professor of Theoretical Experimental Chemistry and Pharmaceutics Karl Christian Goebel was elected Corresponding Member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences.
In 1834, Goebel led an expedition to study the southern Russian steppes, in which Karl Karlovich Klaus participated as a botanist, in whom Goebel aroused interest in the chemistry of medicinal substances. The expedition determined or specified a number of altitudes: the relative height of Lake Elton relative to the Volga and Ural rivers, a number of points in relation to the Caspian Sea , leveled between the Volga and the Don and in the space between the Caspian and Black Seas; the chemical composition of the water of eleven lakes of the Caspian steppe and four lakes of the Crimea was determined. He also owns the creation of methods for obtaining some inks, making waterproof paper and inks.
He died on May 26 ( June 7 ) of 1851 in Dorpat [5] .
