Railway Bridge

The cost of the bridge is 123 million US dollars. It was developed by order of Turkmenistan by specialists of the Dneprohyprotrans Ukrainian Institute. The general contractor was the bridge builders of the Ukrtransstroy corporation, which together with the Turkmen builders of the department of the Ministry of Railway Transport built this facility. According to experts, the bridge is able to withstand tremors with a force of 8 points on the Richter scale [3] .

On September 16, 2009, Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Viktor Yushchenko visited the Lebap province and solemnly commissioned the Atamurat - Kerkichi railway bridge [4] [5] .

In the summer of 2011, the first passenger train passed over the bridge [6] .

Road Bridge

On September 17, 2009, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov approved the conclusion of an agreement between the state concern Turkmenavtoellary and the Ukrainian company ALTKOM , which became the general contractor for the construction. The total construction cost is 159 million US dollars. The bridge project was developed by specialists of the Ukrainian research design institutes Soyuztransproekt and Ukrgiprobudmost. The bridge is designed for earthquakes of 9 points on the Richter scale. In order to ensure safety, German specialists designed special support parts, a number of anti-seismic devices are provided. An individual expansion joint was also developed that accepts longitudinal displacements of up to 1600 mm.

Work started in the fall of 2009. The bridge crossing includes a 1414 m long bridge with a carriageway width of 11.5 m, approach embankments, shore protection structures with a length of 6000 m,. The bridge is located on the new railway line Turmenabat - Atamurat - Kerkichi [7] .

About 600 people were involved in the construction, including 130 specialists from Ukraine.

On February 14, 2013, with the participation of President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the bridge was inaugurated [8] [9] [10] .

As a pavement for the bridge, the metal base of which in the summer can heat up to 70-80 degrees, the modern material "Matacryl" is used. This multilayer polymer coating withstands high temperatures and has significantly higher strength characteristics compared to asphalt concrete. Vessels can pass under the bridge without hindrance, because each span has a ship gauge 60 meters wide and 9.5 meters high.
