Biography

Richard Fromberg was born on April 28, 1970 in Alverston ( Tasmania , Australia ) [2] . He began to play tennis at the age of 10. In 1986-1989 he was a scholar of the [3] [4] .

In 1987, the Australian reached the quarter finals of the singles competition of the Australian Open in tennis at the junior level. In 1988, he reached the semi-finals in singles and the finals in the doubles of the Australian Open Tennis Championships , and also played in the single semifinals of the Wimbledon tournament - all this is also in the junior category [1] .

By the end of 1988, he had completely switched to adult tennis. In 1990, Fromberg won the first singles title at the ATP tournament : in Bologna , as well as the first doubles title: in Schenectady .

Richard played for the Australian national team in two Davis Cup finals, in 1990 and 1993. In 1990, the Australian team lost to the US team with a score of 2-3, with Fromberg defeating Michael Chang in single games, but lost to Andre Agassi in a bitter struggle in the five-set match. In 1993, the Australian team lost to the German team with a score of 1–4 - Fromberg defeated Mark-Kevin Göllner , but lost to Michael Stich . Over the course of his career in the Davis Cup, Fromberg has had 10 wins and 4 losses in singles and one victory in a single doubles match [5] [6] .

Fromberg's best result in Grand Slam tournaments was getting into the 4th round of the Australian Open in 1993 and 1998 [7] .

During his career, Richard Fromberg has won 4 singles tournaments and 2 doubles tournaments. The highest single position in the world ranking of professional tennis players is the 24th (in 1990). During his career, he earned as a prize 2 605 740 US dollars [2] .

After the career of a professional tennis player, Richard Fromberg continues to work as a coach at the Fromberg – McCurdy Tennis Academy [4] , and also occasionally plays in veteran matches, in particular, in the demonstration doubles match of the “tennis legends” at the Australian Open 2012 years [8] .
