Biography
Born in 1771 in the family of the director of the German school Petrishule , writer and historian Johann-Gotlib Villamov ( German Iohann Gotlib Willamow ' ; 15.01.1736–21.05.1777), in 1767 he moved to Russia. After the death of his father, along with his sisters Elizaveta and Anna (in marriage for A. N. Sablin ), was taken care of by pastors of the Peter Church. Entered the Petrishule School on April 5, 1780 . He completed a full course of study (Selecta) and received a diploma in the spring of 1787 .
In 1788 he was accepted as a student in the board of foreign affairs; In 1789 he was promoted to actuaries and sent to the fleet that acted against the Swedes. In 1792 he was appointed to the Stockholm mission, in 1794 - as a translator to a foreign college. In 1801, "appointed to be at the correction of cases" under the Empress Maria Feodorovna ; from 1828 until his death, he was State Secretary . The author of the book: “The chronological outline of the acts of blessed memory of the empress, Empress Maria Feodorovna, in favor of the institutions that were under her highest protection. - SPb, 1836. - 74 p. ”(Reissued in 1897).
According to N.I. Grech , Villamov was “a man of extraordinary intelligence and talent, I did not know a person who was smarter, brighter, or more kind. He had amazing talents, he wrote correctly and eloquently in Russian, in German and in French, without preparation, everything just came out. His handwriting was excellent, and he worked with surprising ease. In early 1842, paralysis occurred to him, and he lost his use of the language. Signs he expressed a desire to join the rite of the Greek Church, which was fulfilled. The next day he died and was buried as an Orthodox " [3] . He was buried next to his beloved daughter Anna Goetz at the Smolensk Orthodox cemetery in St. Petersburg.
Family
His wife is Varvara Artemyevna Sverbihin (13.08.1775–24.01.1860), daughter of Stockholm merchant Artemy Semenovich Sverbihin. There was “a Swede upbringing and education, and by religion an Orthodox, her husband was a completely Russian man and a Lutheran” [3] . Buried next to her husband. Children:
- Alexander (1798–1870), Head of the Hydrographic Department of the Maritime Ministry, Lieutenant General;
- Ivan (1802-1822), a student at the University of Dorpat , drowned on the day of the end of the course;
- Artemy (1804–1869), second lieutenant of the Life Guards Horse Artillery;
- Gregory (1816–1869), Adjutant General , George Cavalier ;
- Mary (1805–1877), married to V.H. Christiani ;
- Anna (1810-1840), married to the head of the St. Petersburg educational house, Karl Fedorovich Getz;
- Elizabeth, married to Major General Sokolov;
- Varvara, behind Annensky.
- Sophia (c. 1820-1865).
