Raja Ugyen Dorji ( dzong-ke ཨོ་ རྒྱན་ རྡོ་ རྗེ་ , wiley O-rgyan Rdo-rje , Latin Ugyen Dorji , 1855-1916) representative of the influential Bhutanese family of Dorji , influential Bhutanese politician at the beginning of the 20th century , chief minister ( Gongzim) Bhutan from 1907 to 1916. He was the closest adviser to Ugyen Wangchuk , the hereditary Tongs-penlop ( Penlop (ruler) of Tongs Province ), which later became the First Druk Gyalpo . He played an important role in strengthening friendly relations with Britain after the Bhutan War ( 1864 - 1865 ) and Penlop's negotiations with the British Empire during the latter's Tibet campaign in 1904. Acting on behalf of the Bhutan House in Kalimpong , India , using his connections, Ugyen Dorji opened Bhutan to the outside world, established international relations , and sought new markets for his country.

Family
The son of Ugyen Dorji Sonam Tobgai Dorji was born in 1896 and was the chief minister under the first and second kings of Bhutan. His descendants continue to contribute to the strengthening of political power by intermarrying with the royal house of Wangchuck [1] .

December 11, 1911 received the title of Raji [1] .
Death
Ugyen Dorji died on June 22, 1916 [1] .
