The airline’s home port and its main transit hub ( hub ) is Honolulu International Airport , and the carrier uses the Kahului Airport as another hub [1] .

History

Airline Nevada was established in 1974 and began operating in July of that year, having a license for passenger and cargo charter flights. In 1978, the company began operating regular passenger flights. After Eagle Canyon Airlines acquired the entire Air Nevada route network, the carrier ceased operations in January 1998, changed its official name to Pacific Wings, and resumed regular passenger traffic in Hawaii. The Pacific Wings is equally owned by Greg Kalstorf and Frank Ford [1] .

On February 1, 2007, the airline opened regular routes on the Honolulu-Molokai, Honolulu-Lanai and Kahului-Molokai directions, tickets for all flights for which were sold at $ 49 one way. A month later, another Honolulu-Kapalua route was launched [2] . The company's cheap tariff program received the marketing name “PW Express” and was valid until July 2009.

Pacific Wings is headquartered in Dallas , Texas . [3] Previously, the airline’s management center was located in the local transportation terminal of Kahului Airport ( Maui , Hawaii ) [4] .

Subsidiaries

Pacific Wings is owned by two local airlines - New Mexico Airlines and GeorgiaSkies . All three carriers use the same call sign and operate under the same IATA and ICAO codes, but are geographically distributed in different regions of the United States.

New Mexico Airlines

In January 2007, Pacific Wings received the right to support regional and local commercial air travel flights from Albuquerque ( New Mexico ) to the cities of Clovis and Silver ( New Mexico ), and between the cities of Hobbs and Carlsbad , as part of the Essential Air Service state program. As a result of the competition, the airline took the routes from Albuquerque from the regional carrier Great Lakes Aviation , the route from Hobbs - from another North American regional Air Midwest . Pacific Wings executives stated that they will use Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft in these areas and will strive to bring the service of these routes to breakeven (and, accordingly, from the Essential Air Service program) by analogy with a number of its routes in the Hawaiian Islands [5 ] [6] .

In March 2007, the New Mexico County Committee that manages the Hobbs Municipal Airport and the Carlsbahn City Council unanimously voted to transfer the Essential Air Service contract for servicing its airports from the major Mesa Airlines to Pacific Wings , which, in addition to mandatory and subsidized federal routes to Albuquerque and El Paso ( Texas ), opened regular flights to Lubbock , the Midland / Odessa (Texas) and Santa Fe (New Mexico) region. At the same time, the management of the carrier announced the cancellation of the contract for flights to Silver City due to the refusal of local government officials in a meeting with representatives of the airline [7] .

On March 30, 2007, the US Department of Transportation formally approved Pacific Wings as the designated carrier on routes from Hobbs and Carlsbad [8] . Flights to New Mexico airports began on July 1 of the same year under the brand name ( brand ) of New Mexico Airlines [9] .

GeorgiaSkies

In June 2008, the federal government signed a contract with Pacific Wings for the Essential Air Service to operate scheduled flights to Athens and Macon ( GA ) airports from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta . Flights in these areas began on September 29, 2008 on Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft under the GeorgiaSkies trademark [10] [11] .

Accidents and accidents

July 12, 1993. Airline Nevada's Cessna 402 (registration N818AN), flying from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon , crashed on takeoff from McCarran International Airport . After leaving the airport runway, the pilot informed the dispatcher about the open tailgate and intention to return to the departure airport, after which the airliner crashed, in which two passengers and an airplane pilot died [12] .
