The Seligur Route ( Letop. Seugersky Route ) is one of the trade routes linking Novgorod the Great with the lower lands [1] . On it stood the Novgorod city of Torzhok (New Torg, first mentioned by the chronicles under 1139 ) and the city of Vladimir-Suzdal principality Tver . The name comes from Lake Seliger , on the water (with portages ) and the ice of which passed the way.

Route
The path from the Volga to Novgorod passed up to the Torzhka up the Tvertsa , the left tributary of the Volga . Further the following routes were possible:
- along the Msta and its right tributary Volme ;
- Yazhelbitskaya road from Torzhok through Vyshny Volochyok and Yazhelbitsy . According to P. P. Semenov-Tyanshansky [2] , this path passed through Seliger. According to the calculations of Yanin V.L. , it is with this option that the distance from Novgorod to Ignach Cross , in which the Mongols stopped their movement to Novgorod in March 1238, is in favor of identifying the annalistic Seliger path [3] ;
- The Demon Road (via Demyansk , known since 1406) from Seliger across the Yavon River , a tributary of the Pola River , which flows into Lake Ilmen .
- From Seliger across the Shcheberekha River in Pola and Lake Ilmen.
