"Apartment 1303" ( born Apartment 1303 3D ) is a US - Canadian horror film , a remake of the Japanese film of the same name , based on the book by Kei Oishi. Filming began in Montreal in early November 2011 [4] . In Russia, the film was released on December 6, 2012 [5] , and in the United States on July 25, 2013 .

Content
Story
After a family dispute, Janet leaves home where she lived with her older sister Lana and their mother-singer Maddy. She moves to rented apartment 1303 on the 13th floor of a residential building in downtown Detroit . Emily, nine-year-old neighbor, explains to Janet that the previous owner of her new apartment committed suicide . Strange things begin to happen in the apartment, and when bruises appear on Janet, at work they think that her boyfriend Mark beats her, but she believes that this is because of a walk in a dream .
Janet was shocked when she witnessed unexplained phenomena in her new home and Mark comes to reassure her. On the evening of that day, Janet is awakened by supernatural forces in the apartment, but Mark is no longer there. The ghost of a girl who committed suicide takes possession of Janet’s body and leads her to suicide. After Janet’s death, Lana comes to collect her sister’s things and begins to experience the same fears.

Criticism
The film received a huge amount of negative reviews. On the Rotten Tomatoes website , he received an average rating of 1.7 out of 5 and 85% of disapproving reviews. The ratings of the film also turned out to be very low: IMDb - 3.0 ; Kinopoisk - 2.908 ( on August 2, 2013 ). On these sites, the film entered the top of the worst films.
Rental Failure
The film was shown in Russian cinemas for four weeks and during this time it was able to raise about a million dollars , which is almost 4 times less than the budget of the film, which is $ 5 million .
Production
Initially, Swedish director Daniel Fridell was invited to shoot the film, but was later replaced by Michel Tavern. Specialized groups of 3D experts from Hong Kong were hired to shoot the film. [6]
