Description and history of the coat of arms

In 1780, Shenkursk became a county town and the center of the Shenkur district of Vologda governorship .

The emblem of Shenkursk was highly approved on October 2, 1780 by Empress Catherine II, together with other emblems of the cities of the Vologda governorate (PSZ, 1780, Law No. 15069). [1] [2]

The description of the coat of arms of Shenkursk read:

"Zvurek, called a badger , in the green field. The sign that there are many in the vicinity of this city. At the top of the shield is the coat of arms of Vologda :" In the red shield there is a hand emerging from the cloud holding a golden power with a silver sword. "

In 1784, Shenkursk became subordinate to Arkhangelsk governorate, and since 1796 it was part of the Arkhangelsk province . As historians suggest, the upper part of the shield of coats of arms of the cities of the Vologda governorate, which in 1784 became subordinate to the Arkhangelsk governorate, changed to the coat of arms of Arkhangelsk . However, there is no official confirmation of this.

In 1859, during the Köhne heraldic reform, a draft of the new coat of arms of Shenkursk was developed: “In the green field is a golden badger. In the free part is the coat of arms of the Arkhangelsk province. The shield is placed on golden hammers lying crosswise connected by the Alexander ribbon ”(not officially approved).

On October 9, 2009, by the decision of the fifth session of the Assembly of Deputies of the fourth convocation of the Municipal Formation “ Shenkur Municipal District ”, the emblem of the Shenkur region was adopted, based on the historical coat of arms of Shenkursk.

The emblem of the district had the following description: “In a green field there is a silver badger with black eyes, a nose, a strip on its face, a belly and legs. In the free part, the coat of arms of the Arkhangelsk region . The shield is crowned with a municipal crown of an established pattern. ”

In 2006, an urban settlement was formed - the Municipal Formation "Shenkurskoye" . The decision to reconstruct the historical coat of arms as an official symbol of the city of Shenkursk and to accept the coat of arms for the Shenkur city settlement by the city authorities was not taken.
