Biography
Ivan Gorelov was born on June 1, 1918 in the village of Selishchi (now the Krasnoslobodsky district of Mordovia ) into a peasant family. He received his primary education, worked as a tractor driver in a machine and tractor station [1] .
In 1939, Gorelov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. He graduated from junior lieutenant courses. Since the beginning of World War II - on its fronts. By November 1943, Junior Lieutenant Ivan Gorelov commanded the firing platoon of the artillery battalion of the 71st Mechanized Brigade of the 9th Mechanized Corps of the 3rd Guards Tank Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Kiev region of the Ukrainian SSR [1] .
On November 6, 1943, during the battle for the village of Khotov in the Kiev-Svyatoshinsky district , Gorelov’s platoon, letting the enemy’s column closer, destroyed 2 tractors, a passenger car and 5 guns. On November 7, at a junction in the area of the village of Volitsa of the Fastovsky District , firing direct fire, the platoon destroyed a large number of enemy soldiers and officers [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 10, 1944, junior lieutenant Ivan Gorelov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .
After the war, the rank of lieutenant Gorelov was transferred to the reserve. He lived in Lviv , worked on the Lviv Railway . He died on February 8, 1969 [1] .
He was also awarded the Order of Alexander Nevsky and a number of medals [1] .
Perpetuation of memory
- The memorial plaque to Gorelov Ivan Pavlovich was erected at the memorial complex to the soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War on Victory Square in Krasnoslobodsk . In 2019, dismantled, in connection with the installation of the bust of the hero.
