Biography
Pavel Venediktovich Amendment was born on August 8 (July 26 - according to the old style ) in 1914 in the village of Poteryayki of the Poltava county of the Poltava province of the Russian Empire (now the village of Reshetilovsky district of the Poltava region of Ukraine ) in a peasant family. Ukrainian . From an early age, Pavel Venediktovich helped his father in the field. Parents did not consider education as the main thing for their son, so he went to school late. In 1931, P.V. Amendment graduated from grade 4 of an elementary school in the neighboring village of Brateshki . The famine that erupted in the country in the early 30s of the 20th century forced Pavel Venediktovich to leave his native village. He moved to the neighboring Kharkov region . Settled in the village of Pervomaisk . He worked at a local state farm in a construction team. From 1937 to 1941 he served in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . Demobilized shortly before the start of World War II with the rank of foreman.
Once again, Pavel Venediktovich was called up for military service by the Shevchenkovsky regional military registration and enlistment office in June 1941. In the battles with the Nazi invaders since August 1941. Participated in the defense of the Crimean peninsula . Since November 1941 on the Transcaucasian Front . Member of the Battle of the Caucasus . He was wounded, was treated in a hospital. Since the second half of 1942, as part of the 318th Mountain Rifle Division of the 18th Army as the company foreman of the 1339th Mountain Rifle Regiment. Until the beginning of 1943, regiment units held defenses in the foothills of the Main Caucasian Range in the Tuapse direction. In January 1943, Pavel Venediktovich participated in the counterattack of the Black Sea Group of Forces of the Transcaucasian Front. Since March 1943, the 18th Army operated as part of the North Caucasus Front in the Novorossiysk direction.
In September 1943, the 1339th Mountain Rifle Regiment of the 318th Mountain Division, landed on the night of September 10, 1943 as a tactical assault in the Novorossiysk port near the Krasny Oktyabr cement plant, covered itself with unfading glory, beating off for six days numerous enemy counterattacks. During the landing, the foreman of the company of the 1st Infantry Battalion P.V.Pravka, commanding the assault group, was the first in his unit to land in Tsemess Bay , after which he burst into the building, which the Germans turned into a powerful strong point, and destroyed the settlers in him enemy soldiers. The Amendment assault group also seized a large German warehouse, which made it possible to ensure an uninterrupted supply of paratroopers with food and ammunition. In continuous hand-to-hand battles, the fighters of the 1339th Mountain Rifle Regiment not only held the captured bridgehead , but also were able to advance to the village of Methodius and started a battle on its outskirts. On September 16, 1943, Petty Officer P.V. Amendment participated in the liberation of Novorossiysk from the Nazi invaders, and on September 21, Anapa was liberated as part of his unit.
After the liberation of the Taman Peninsula, the command of the North Caucasus Front began to develop plans for landing on the Kerch Peninsula . The operation was called the Kerch-Eltigen landing operation . The Eltigen assault, which included the 318th Mountain Rifle Division, acted in the auxiliary direction. He had to seize the bridgehead south of Kerch in the vicinity of the village of Eltigen, take possession of the port of Kamysh-Burun and ensure the landing of the 117th Guards Rifle Division , and then, together with the main landing forces, liberate the Kerch Peninsula. On November 1, 1943, Petty Officer P.V. Correction, under the fierce artillery fire of the enemy, was one of the first in his regiment to land on the Kerch Peninsula and participated in the seizure of the bridgehead. For six days of continuous fighting, he reflected the enemy’s counterattack, displaying patterns of heroism and courage. By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of November 17, 1943, the foreman Amendment Pavel Venediktovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.
After being wounded near Eltigen, P.V. Amendment was evacuated to the Taman Peninsula, but a week later he fled from the medical battalion and arrived at the headquarters of his division. But he again got to the Kerch Peninsula only in the second half of January 1944, when the 318th Mountain Rifle Division as part of the 3rd Rifle Corps of the Separate Primorye Army was transferred to the Crimea. In April 1944, Pavel Venediktovich participated in the liberation of the city of Kerch. He was twice wounded. After the second serious wound and treatment at the hospital, he was sent for further service to the Kharkov Military Infantry School, who returned from Namangan . After the end of World War II, the foreman P.V. Amendment was demobilized. He returned to the Shevchenko district . He lived in the village of Borovskoye , worked as a foreman at a local state farm. After retiring, he moved to Kharkov . January 5, 1994 Pavel Venediktovich died. He was buried in the cemetery number 4 of the city of Kharkov.
