Babaev, Farid Nametalievich

Born in a mountain village of Lezgi in the south of Dagestan, in the family of a veteran of the Great Patriotic War. He graduated in 1983 from the Kharkov Aviation Institute ^[1] .

He worked as the head of the tool shop at the Aviaagregat plant in Makhachkala. In 1986, he left the factory, became a cooperator. In 1990-1995 - Member of the Makhachkala City Council. In 1995-2000 engaged in entrepreneurial activity, chairman of the cooperative "Rainbow". In 2000, he joined the Yabloko party ^[1] .

Human rights and political activities

He began to engage in human rights activities, in particular, the investigation into the shooting of police on April 25, 2006 by a rally in the village of Miskindzha in the Dokuzparinsky district , during which there were human casualties. He participated in the creation of the human rights organization “ Mother of Dagestan for Human Rights ”, which was engaged in the search for abducted and “missing” residents of the republic, and in the investigation of human rights violations in the republic. In January 2007, he organized and headed the regional branch of the Yabloko party in Dagestan. He ran for deputies of the National Assembly of the Republic of Dagestan of the fourth convocation. He participated in the work of the Memorial Society. He opposed the project for the development of copper-pyritic ore from the Kizil-dere deposit near the village of Khnov because of the high threat to the natural environment.

During the election campaign to the State Duma of the fifth convocation, the authorities of the republic of Dagestan prevented the propaganda of the Yabloko party in the media, the video showing Farid Babaev and the publication in the youth of Dagestan were banned ^[2] .

On November 21, 2007, at the entrance of his house in Makhachkala, he received four bullet wounds, two of them in the head. With him was a son who was not injured.
