Club career

Mario is a graduate of the Atlas club football academy. He is part of the Atlas golden generation, along with footballers such as Rafael Marquez , Juan Pablo Rodriguez , Miguel Cepeda and Daniel Osorno . His debut for the main team took place in 1998, after which he was one of the key players for 6 seasons. For Atlas, he spent more than 200 matches in all tournaments and scored 11 goals, and also became the champion of Mexico and the holder of the CONCACAF Champions Cup. In 2004, Mendes moved to Toluca , for which he played until the end of 2005. The next defender's club was Monterrey , but because of the heavy employment in the matches, Mendes spent the national team for the new one with only a few striped matches. In the summer of that year, he moved to WANL Tigres , but he didn’t remember anything special there. In the winter of 2007, Mario accepted the offer of the Argentinean Veles Sarsfield . In the defender's transition, a big role was played by the desire of the Veles head coach, Ricardo Lavolpe , to see Mendes as part of the team. Therefore, after the mentor resigned in mid-2008, Mario also returned to Mexico to his former Tolucu team. On July 27, in a match against Atlanta , Mendes made his debut for a new team [1] . On February 19, 2009, in a duel against Guadalajara , Mario scored his first goal for the team [2] . In 2011, he transferred to Atlas for the second time on loan, but a year later he was sent to the Assenso League team, Irapuato . On August 14, 2011, in a match against Zelaya , Mario made his debut in the new club [3] .

International Career

On January 9, 2000, in a friendly match against the Romanian national team , Mario made his debut in the Mexican national team , in the same match he scored his first and only goal for the national team. In 2003, Mendes as part of the national team won the CONCACAF Gold Cup . In 2006, he fell into the team's application for a trip to the World Cup in Germany . In the tournament, he spent 3 matches, in the group stage against the teams of Iran and Angola , as well as in 1/8 against the national team of Argentina . When Hugo Sanchez was the national team coach, Mendes was not called up to the national team. In 2008, he was called in by a new Mexican mentor, Sven-Goran Ericsson, for a friendly match against Chile .
