The winner was Mark Selby , who beat Sean Murphy in the final with a score of 10: 6. Last year's champion Judd Trump , seeded under the first number, dropped out in the first round, losing to Mark Joyce with a score of 5: 6

Notable Facts
- For the first time since 1992, two Englishmen met in the final match of the UK Championship.
- For the first time in snooker history, three maximum breaks were made during the ranking tournament (including qualification rounds). Andy Hicks set 147 points in a match against Daniel Wells (second qualifying round), which became the first maximum series in Hicks' career. The next day, Jack Lisowski set the maximum break in the match against the Chinese player Chen Jae (third qualifying round), which also became the first for the athlete. In the 1/8 final match against Mark Davis, John Higgins set the seventh maximum series in his career ( video ). The John Higgins series became the 95th official maximum series in history, as well as the 10th maximum series in 2012. Thus, 2012 repeated the 1999 record for the number of maximum series for the year.
- Finalists Sean Murphy and Mark Selby were noted for stunning comebacks during the tournament. Mark Selby in the quarterfinal match against the Australian Neil Robertson , losing 0: 4 frames, managed to win 6 frames in a row and set the final score in the match 6: 4. In turn, his opponent in the finals, meeting in a semifinal match up to 9 wins with Ali Carter , having gone to the last break with a score of 4: 8, took 5 frames in a row and won the match 9: 8.
- After winning the tournament, Mark Selby regained the first line of the ranking, ahead of Judd Trump .
