Zheltushka Ershova

Zheltushka Ershova [1] ( lat. Colias erschoffii ) is a diurnal butterfly of the genus Colias from the subfamily of the yellow tree of the belyanka family . The specific name is given in honor of the famous Russian lepidopterine Nikolai Grigorievich Ershov . One of the largest and most poorly studied species of the high-mountainous zheltushek [1] .

Description

 
Underside of the wings

The wingspan of the male is up to 49 mm, the females 55–60 mm [3] [4] .

Area

Endemic of the North-Eastern Tien Shan. Inhabits the southern and northern slopes in the high-altitude belts of the spruce forest and subalpine belt at altitudes from 1900 to 2800 meters above sea level. Occurs in mixed grass meadows. The species is seen rarely and curodly [1] .

Biology

Develops over the year in one generation. Butterflies fly in July. Flying butterflies fast, rapid. Males are capable of significant migrations in the side of females. The caterpillar lives on the grassy astragalus [1] .

Included in the Red Book of Kazakhstan - the category of "rare species" [1] .
