Biography
In 1958, the coach of the Kuibyshev “ Wings of the Soviets ” Abramov invited the goalkeeper to his team. Two seasons Sokolov played exclusively for the double. On May 13, 1960, he made his debut for the main squad, replacing Nikolai Karasev in an away match against Spartak Moscow. In 1961 he played 17 matches, helped the team win the zonal and final class “B” tournaments, and received the title Master of Sports. The best in Sokolov’s career was 1964, he defended at the gates almost all the games of the season, including the final game of the USSR Cup against Kiev Dynamo. In 1965 he played in the semifinal of the cup against the Moscow Spartak. He played for Wings from 1960 to 1966, missed 115 goals in 105 matches of the USSR Championship. After “Wings of the Soviets” he played in Tula and Kuibyshev “ Metallurg ”.
In 1970, he worked for a while as a second coach at the Torpedo Togliatti with Alfred Fedorov .
He died after a long illness on August 17, 2017 [1] .
