Biography

Nikolaos was born in Athens in 1957 . He was educated at the Faculty of Mathematics of the University of Athens [1] .

Already at the age of 16, he joined the Nationalist Party on August 4, led by Konstantinos Pleuris . He was also a member of the Athens City Cell of EOKA-B . He was first arrested in July 1974 during a protest in front of the British Embassy in Athens against the position of the United Kingdom during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus .

He was arrested a second time in December 1976 for assaulting journalists covering the graves of Evangelos Mullios , a former intelligence chief of the Greek Police Security Directorate, who is associated with torture of prisoners during the " colonel regime ." He was killed by members of the Revolutionary Organization on November 17 , but was released from custody [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] . In conclusion, Nikolaos met with the leaders of the Greek military junta of 1967-1974 [6] . After that, he joined the army and became the commander of special forces.

The third time, Nikolaos was arrested in July 1978 , after becoming a member of an ultra-right extremist group. He was sentenced to one year in prison in January 1979 for the illegal possession of weapons and explosives. He was also stripped of his military rank [2] [7] .

After his liberation, Nikolaos founded the magazine “Chrysi Avgi” (translated from Greek means “Golden Dawn”). The theme of the magazine, at least initially, was closely linked to nationalist beliefs. However, in April 1984, the publication of the magazine ceased after the personal order of Georgios Papadopoulos , when Mikhaloliakos joined the National Political Union and took over the leadership of the youth section. In January 1985, he resigned from the National Political Union and founded the People’s National Movement - Chrisi Avgi.

Nikolaos Michaloliakos remained the leader of Chrisi Avgi until he himself announced the dissolution of the movement in November 2005 [8] . He took this step because of a clash with anti-fascists. In 2005-2007, he (like most members of Chrisi Avgi) continued his political activities through the Patriotic Alliance - a political party, reformed and personally led by Mikhaloliakos [9] .

In the mid-2000s, Chrysi Avgi was restored under the leadership of Michaloliakos. However, its activities met resistance of both the state and left activists [2] [3] [10] . Despite this, in the May 6, 2012 and re-election June 17, 2012, the party overcame the 3 percent barrier and was represented in the Greek Parliament .
