Nuvara Eliya [1] is a city in the Central Province of Sri Lanka . It is located at an altitude of 1884 m above sea level at the foot of Mount Pidurutalagalgala , the highest peak of Sri Lanka.

Toponymy
The name "Nuwara-Eliya" is translated as "a city in the plain" or "city of light."
Production
Nuwara Eliya is one of the most famous places for the production of tea. Tea plantations are located at an altitude of 1400 to 2400 meters. Nuwara Eliya tea is notable for its excellent strength and expressive aroma.

Tourism
"City of Light" Nuwara Eliya - the center of tourism. SPA and golf hotels are located in Nuwara Eliya. Here are regularly organized gastronomic tours focused on familiarity with the tea traditions.
Ecotourism is also developed. Tourists come to admire the waterfalls of Diyalum, Bambarakanda, as well as more miniature water cascades. 10 km from the city is Hakgala Botanical Garden .
