Serpei County

Serpeysky district is an administrative-territorial unit within the Moscow state, Smolensk province , Moscow province and Kaluga province , which existed from 1503 to 1797. County town - Serpeysk .

Geography

The county was located in the western part of Kaluga governorate , in the west it bordered with Smolensk governorate , in the north with Mosalsky district , in the south with Bryansk (Orel governorships) and Zhizdrinsky , in the east with Meshchovsky and Kozelsky districts .

History

Serpeysky district was formed in 1503, after the accession of Serpeisk to the Moscow state.

Grand Duke Ivan III Vasilyevich in 1504 bequeathed Serpeysk to his son Yuri . According to the grand-ducal spiritual charter, in addition to Serpeisk, the volosts included Zamoshye, Tukhachev, Degna, Fominichi, Pogostishche, Kovylna, Blizhevichi, Lyubun, Snopot, Danilovichi, Shuya, Demen, Already, Chernyatitsi, Gorodechna, Moshtyn, and Gnezdilovo volosts. In 1534, the inheritance of Prince Yuri Ivanovich was liquidated.

During the Time of Troubles, in 1613, it was occupied by the Poles and, according to the agreement of 1618, it left to Poland (it was part of the Smolensk Voivodeship ). Returned by Russia in 1634 following the results of the Russian-Polish war of 1632-1634 and the prisoner of the Polyanovsky peace .

At the end of the XVII century. the villages of Ratkovo, Alfer'evskoye, Sazhino, Kavilnya, Mashchinsky camp, Fominichi, Pogostishche, Pechki, Zhelny, Danilovichi, Sychovo, Spasskoye, Dobritsy, Lazinki, Zhdanovo, Aselye, and Moshchin were included in the Serpeysky district. The county was divided into camps : 1. Okologorodny, 2. Moshchinsky, 3. Sozhinsky, 4. Zamoshsky, 5. Nizhdevsky, 6. Shuysky, 7. Danilovsky, 8. Deminsky volost (palace).

In 1708, during the administrative reform of Peter I, the county was assigned to the Smolensk province . In 1713, it was abolished and Serpeysky district moved to the Moscow province . In 1719, the county was assigned to the Kaluga province of the Moscow province.

In 1776, Serpei district was included in the Kaluga governorate. At the same time, its borders have changed greatly: the entire western half has departed to the Smolensk province (now it is the Ugransky district of the Smolensk region ), and the southern part of the Meshchovsky district has been transferred to the Serpeysky district . The area was 336637 acres. Settlements: 1 city, 44 villages, 59 villages, 247 villages. Residents 77396 (of which 39891 are males and 37505 are females).

In 1797, the Serpei district was abolished, its territory was divided between Meshchovsky, Mosalsky and Zhizdrinsky districts.
