Biography
Born in September 1924 in the village of Dmitrovka, Donetsk region, in a peasant family. After finishing 7 classes he worked on a collective farm.
At the front since February 1942. October 25, 1943 when crossing the Dnieper in the area of the city of Zaporozhye showed courage and heroism. Bursting one of the first in the trenches of the enemy, in hand-to-hand combat, he destroyed 20 Nazis, then several more in the captured dugout . When the commander was wounded, Sergeant Chumachenko took command, and the platoon fighters repelled several enemy counterattacks .
Viktor Ivanovich Chumachenko died on December 27, 1944 in one of the battles. He was buried in Zaporozhye.
