Crater Ansgar ( lat. Ansgarius ) - impact crater on the eastern edge of the disk of the visible side of the moon . The name was given in honor of the German theologian and St. Ansgar (801-865) and approved by the International Astronomical Union in 1935. The formation of the crater belongs to the nectar period [1] .

Crater Description
The immediate neighbors of the crater are the Laperuz Crater in the northwest; Kestner and Black craters in the north; Kiss , Craiken , Elmer craters in the northeast; Beheim Crater in the south. To the northeast of the crater is the Smith Sea [2] . Selenographic coordinates of the center of the crater , diameter 91.4 km [3] , depth 4.19 km [4] .
Due to its location near the eastern limb of the Moon, the crater seems oval when observed, although it has an almost regular circular shape. The crater shaft was preserved without significant damage, the inner slope has a pronounced terrace-like structure. The height of the shaft above the surrounding area is 1450 m [1] , the volume of the crater is approximately 8600 km³ [1] . The southern part of the rampart has a straightened shape and overlaps the remains of an ancient crater from which there was nothing left except the western portion of the rampart. In the north-north-eastern part of the crater there is a serrated protrusion. The bottom of the crater bowl is flat, marked by several small craters. There is no central peak. According to morphological characteristics, the crater belongs to the TYC type (according to the name of a typical representative of this type - Tycho crater).
