Portland Community Schools ( Portland Public Schools , Oregon, USA) is a school district located in Portland , Oregon , USA . It is the largest school district in Oregon, as well as in the Pacific Northwest. The district serves approximately 47,000 students. About 85 schools and 50 special schools are located within the district.
History
The first public school in Portland was opened on December 15, 1851, and its first teacher was John T. Outhouse, who then received a salary of $ 100 per month for his teaching, but was forced to earn extra money by uprooting stumps from the streets and working on the docks . For the first time, the school began to be funded under a legislative act in 1849.
