Biography
Born on April 13 (26), 1914 in the village of Khreshchenka, Zemlyansky district, Voronezh province (now Khlevensky district, Lipetsk region ) in a peasant family. Russian
Primary education. He worked at an aircraft factory as a mechanic in workshop No. 7 [1] . Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1940.
He was drafted into the Red Army in April 1942, and in June he was sent to the front. The gun commander of the 69th guards separate fighter-anti-tank battalion of the guard, senior sergeant Fedor Gorbunov, on the night of September 28, 1943, was among the first to cross the Dnieper River in the area of s. Mishurin Rog ( Verkhnedneprovsky District, Dnipropetrovsk Region). The calculation of his guns took a firing position on the right bank and at dawn destroyed 2 pillboxes on the path of the attackers. Reflecting the enemy attack, destroyed 2 tanks.
In early October 1943, in battles on the right bank of the Dnieper, the crew let the enemy tanks 150 m away and destroyed the fighting vehicle from the first shot. As a result of this battle, five Red Army soldiers were killed, and Fedor Gorbunov, seriously wounded, was captured. In captivity he was in the camps of Königsberg and Lexelfole (Norway). Twice unsuccessfully tried to escape and was imprisoned in a death row, but the day before the execution he was released by our troops [2] .
In 1946, F.I. Gorbunov was demobilized. He lived in Voronezh . He worked in the production regional association "Vtorchermet". He died on September 28, 1991.
Rewards
- The title of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded on February 22, 1944 .
- He was awarded the orders of Lenin, World War 1 degree and the Red Star, as well as medals.

- On the stele of Heroes' Square in Lipetsk, the name of F. I. Gorbunov is engraved [3] .
