History
In May 2009, designer Gary Goddard and his company Goddard Group carried out an order from the municipal government for the construction of 2 km 2 of the Fushun Economic Development Zone (total area - 22 km 2 ), located near the city of Fushun , Liaoning Province. Among other things, Goddard proposed a plan for creating the Dream World theme park in Fushun itself [4] .
Goddard and his company proposed a whole range of different ideas for building the city, including shopping areas, recreational areas, and also proposed the concept of creating the Ring of Life [5] . In January 2010, the Goddard Group took on the implementation of the project, the Ring of Life plan was developed.
Ring of Life was created specifically as a tourist attraction, winning a competition of regional projects [6] . It has also been recognized at the national level. During the construction, 3.5 thousand tons of steel were needed [7] , and the cost is estimated at $ 16 million [8] .
The first phase of the construction of the New City of Shenfu should be completed in the spring of 2013, and information about the construction of the Ring of Life began to be disseminated in November 2012, and the first photographs of the building appeared at the same time. [9] The project was compared to the West Gate in St. Louis , Missouri , USA. [10] Some users of online forums compared the building to an object from science fiction novels where teleportation is open, and the Stargate films, mainly because of its size and appearance [11] .
Ratings
Ring of Life received mostly restrained positive ratings. Thus, the newspaper The Huffington Post called the project “stunning” [12] , and National Geographic magazine released a photo in the section “The Best in September 2012”. [13] . However, the English Daily Mail rated the Ring of Life as "Eastern excess." [fourteen]
