Biography
Arnold van Kalker was born on September 16, 1976 in the city of Gasselterneyveensemond , province of Drenthe . He was fond of sports from early childhood, and in 1999 he decided to try his hand at bobsledding, passed the selection for the national team, joining the Dutch team as a dispersal. After some time, he made his way to the main team and, thanks to a series of successful performances, was awarded the right to defend the honor of the country at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City , where he subsequently took seventeenth place in the classification of four-seater crews.
Later he began to speak with his younger brother Edwin , who took the place of the lead pilot in the team. Over the next few years, the results left much to be desired, the athlete did not always fall into the top twenty, and medals, if he won, only at the less prestigious European Cup. At the 2005 World Cup in Canada, Calgary, Kalker showed the twenty-third time, gradually his performance went down. The most successful performance at the World Cup took place for him in January 2009, when at the stage in the German Königssee, the Dutchman won a silver medal. Unable to withstand competition in the national team and failing to get to the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver , he decided to end his career as a professional athlete, giving way to young Dutch bobsledders.
