Biography

Born in a petty bourgeois family, brought up in the house of aunt on the father and her husband, critic and literary historian A. M. Skabichevsky .

He graduated from Tsarskoye Selo Grammar School (1902), studied at the Physics and Mathematics Department of St. Petersburg University , and was expelled for revolutionary activity (1904).

Member of the RSDLP since 1903. He actively participated in the revolution of 1905-1907 in St. Petersburg , Gomel , Odessa . In June 1906 - editor of the Bolshevik newspaper Severnaya Zemlya. In 1907 - a member of the Odessa Committee of the RSDLP. He was a delegate to the 5th Congress of the RSDLP (1907). He was repeatedly arrested. From 1911 to 1914 he was in the Narym exile, where, together with V. Kuybyshev and Ya. Sverdlov, he continued his revolutionary activities, taught arithmetic and the Russian language in a comprehensive school created by the exiles. Here he met his wife, an exiled Finnish participant in the labor movement. Since 1914 he lived in Tomsk , was engaged in clerical work.

After the February Revolution of 1917, he was a member of the Tomsk Committee for Public Order and Security, headed the people's militia, then the city food department in Tomsk. Since January 1918 - Commissioner of the Tomsk branch of the State Bank. Member of the Siberian CEC , participant of the IV All-Russian Congress of Soviets in Moscow. Member of the Soviet delegation for negotiations with the headquarters of the uprising Czechoslovak Corps .

On July 25, 1918, while in an illegal situation, he was arrested in Krasnoyarsk [1] by the White Guards. October 24, 1918 was shot at the station Kolchugino (now Leninsk-Kuznetsk ). The burial place is unknown.
