He graduated from Moscow State University named after MV Lomonosov with a degree in German studies (1975) and the Diplomatic Academy of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1988).

- In 1992 - 1996 - First Secretary, Advisor to the Russian Embassy in Germany .
- In 1996 - 1999 - Head of the German Department of the Fourth European Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- In 1999 - 2001 - Senior Advisor to the Russian Embassy in Germany.
- In 2001 - 2003 - Consul General of Russia in Bonn (Germany).
- In 2003 - 2004 - Deputy Director of the Fourth European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
