Women's Chess Olympiad 1972

The 5th Women's Chess Olympiad lasted from September 18 to October 13, 1972 in the Yugoslav city of Skopje (now the Republic of Macedonia ).

The Fifth Women's Chess Olympiad for the first time held simultaneously with the Twentieth Men's Chess Olympiad .

The competition was attended by 63 chess players from 23 teams who played 264 games.

Content

Rules

The tournament was held in a circular system in two rounds. All teams were divided into 4 semifinal groups, the first two teams from each group made up the final “A”. The next two are the final “B”. Those who ranked below 4 made it to the C finals. Places were determined by the number of game points scored, with their equality - team points (KOs) were taken into account.

  • Points - the sum of points scored by all chess players (1 for a chess player’s victory, ½ for a draw, 0 for a defeat);
  • KO - unofficial team points ( KPob - team victory, KNich - draw, Korp - defeat) scored by the whole team (2 for the team victory, 1 - draw, 0 - defeat).
