Career

Jean Florent de Valiers was born on September 7, 1667 in the city of Paris .

Mortar Valier system

He began serving as a cadet in 1685 ; participated in sixty sieges and 10 big battles. He commanded artillery during the siege of Kenois (1715), where with 34 guns in one day destroyed 80 enemy cannons; for which he was promoted to brigadier generals. Inventions on the part of artillery and mine art drew attention to him, and he was appointed the director of the artillery school, and in 1717 the inspector general of all French artillery [3] .

Appointed chief commander of artillery in 1719 , Vallaire laid a solid foundation for good artillery education between officers, and in 1732 first introduced the correct gun system in France, that is, accurately determined the main data of their devices, as well as calibers, dividing them into five genera, which received his name [4] . Valier's system differed in strength, uniformity and simplicity of the device, but it lacked mobility due to excessive length and weight of guns [5] .

Participated in the campaign of 1733; distinguished himself by the art of battle in the Battle of Dettingen (June 27, 1743).

Jean Florent de Valiers died on January 7, 1759.
