The Bendery City Council of People's Deputies (the Bendery City Council) is a representative body of local self-government that coordinates the activities of the entire system of local self-government on this territory. Located in the city of Bender . Effective March 8, 1917.

The Council consists of deputies elected by the citizens of the Pridnestrovskaia Moldavskaia Respublika residing in the city of Bender in the course of free elections held on the basis of universal, equal and direct suffrage by secret ballot . The Council consists of 31 deputies .
The term of office of deputies of the Council is 5 years. The powers of the Council begin from the moment of opening of its first session and end with the beginning of the first session of the Council of a new convocation.
The chairman is Kara Yuri Iosifovich.

History
1917-1941
On February 27, 1917, a second bourgeois-democratic revolution took place in Russia and diarchy formed: on the one hand, the Soviets of workers' and soldiers' deputies , workers' authorities, on the other, the Provisional Government , the power of the bourgeoisie .
In Bessarabia, one of the first Council of People's Deputies was created in Bender. The evening of March 8, at 44 Sovetskaya Street (the former Soborna Street), the first meeting was held. It included delegates from workers of the railway, shipping distance, printing house, mills, employees of the postal and telegraph department, commercial and industrial institutions and other organizations. O. N. Blits was elected Chairman of the provisional executive committee of the Council of Workers' Deputies, and P. V. Dobrodeev was elected deputy. Three days after the Great October Revolution , a plenary meeting of the Council of Workers 'and Soldiers' Deputies took place in Bendery, which recognized the power of the Council of People's Commissars and the decrees of the Soviet government , the Decree on Land and the Decree on Peace . In January 1918, Soviet power was established in the city.
From 1918 to June 28, 1940, Bessarabia was occupied by royal Romania . After Bender’s liberation, the VII session of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR adopted a law on the formation of the Union Moldavian SSR and its acceptance into the USSR . In accordance with the decision of the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks of July 3, 1940, 9 county party committees were formed in Bessarabia. The Bendery district of VP (b) was headed by the first secretary I.I. Antonyuk, D. D. Nosko became the chairman of the district executive committee. The Bender Executive Committee was headed by V.N. Nikitin.
1941—2010
During the Great Patriotic War , from July 1941 to July 1944, the executive committee of the City Council temporarily ceased operations. On August 28, 1944, after the liberation of Bender from the Nazi invaders, the first meeting of the Bender City Executive Committee was held, at which N. I. Biryukov was elected as chairman.
Later, in 1977, by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the SSR, the Executive Committees of the Councils of Workers' Deputies were renamed to the Executive Committees of the Councils of People's Deputies.
The political events of the early 1990s that led to the collapse of the USSR left their mark on the history of the city and led to changes in the structure of local authorities.
In pursuance of the Decree of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovskaia Moldavskaia Respublika No. 544 of November 5 “On the Enactment of the PMR Law“ On Local Authorities, Local Self-Government and State Administration ”” and Decree No. 9 of January 10, 1995 “On the Head of the State Administration” was appointed Head of the Bender City Administration. From this moment, the Executive Committee ceased its activities, and the city Council of People's Deputies and its apparatus continued their activities until the end of their term of office.
2010—2015
The 24th convocation was finally formed after the by-elections held on March 27, 2010. Of the 30 deputies, Anton Nikolaevich Onufrienko was elected to the post of chairman of the city Council of People's Deputies, representing the district No. 29. Five permanent deputy commissions continued to operate:
- on interaction with law enforcement agencies and improving public safety, mandates, issues of parliamentary activity and ethics;
- on economic development and the creation of conditions for increasing business activity and investment attractiveness, the budget, off-budget funds, trade and consumer rights;
- by industry, architecture, municipal property and land resources;
- on health care, social protection of citizens, family and childhood affairs, education, culture, youth policy and sports, ecology, interaction with public, veteran organizations and the media;
- transport and communications, prices and tariffs of housing and communal services, improving the efficiency of utilities and municipal organizations.
On February 6, 2014, Kara Yuri Iosifovich was elected to the post of chairman of the city Council of People’s Deputies.
Authority
The Bender City Council of People's Deputies, within its competence, independently resolves all issues of local importance, based on the interests of citizens living in the city and state interests, implements decisions of higher state authorities, and ensures compliance with the law and order.
