Mithrim Mountains ( lat.Mithrim Montes ) - a mountain system on Titan , the largest satellite of Saturn . Located in the northwestXanadu's light area (the coordinates of the center are ) [1] . It consists of at least three ridges stretched parallel to each other from west-north-west to east-south-east. The maximum length is about 150 km [1] , the height above the surrounding plains is about 1900 m (2010 data) [2] . The southern ridge contains the highest peak of Titan known for 2016 (absolute height - 3337 m) [3] [4] .

In the east, the mountain system borders on a large radar-dark region, in the south - with a 20-kilometer round dark spot (probably destroyed by an impact crater ) [5] . Apparently, it has a tectonic origin [5] [2] .
The Mithrim Mountains were discovered on radar images of the Cassini spacecraft that captured this area on May 12, 2008 (during a flight near Titan under the designation T43) [6] . Like other mountains, on radar images they look brighter than the surrounding area [6] .
They bear the name of the mountains of Middle-earth Mithrim from the legendary J.R. R. Tolkien . This name was approved by the International Astronomical Union on November 13, 2012 [1] .
