The 1980 constitutional referendum in South Korea was held on October 22. [1] The referendum was organized by President Chun Doo-hwan and his entourage with the aim of amending the current constitution of Yushin .
The draft new constitution provided for indirect presidential elections, a 7-year term for the president, the right of the president to impose a state of emergency and the dissolution of parliament, as well as the right to finance the ruling party by the state. [2]
Turnout at the referendum was 95.5%, of which 91.6% were in favor. [3]
