Story
Martin Taylor is released from prison after four years in prison for using inside information . A few days later, his wife Emily car crashes into a wall, trying to commit suicide . At the hospital, she is examined by a psychiatrist, Jonathan Banks, who fears for her mental health and agrees to let Emily go with the condition that she will regularly go to see him.
Emily tries several antidepressants , but none of them work. Jonathan is associated with Dr. Victoria Sibert, a former psychiatrist Emily, who recommends a new drug called "Ablix". Although Jonathan has doubts about the experimental drug, they disappear after Emily’s repeated attempt to end her life by jumping under a subway train. Ablixa works, and Emily begins to live a normal life, not counting cases of somnambulism , in the state of which she once kills her husband with a kitchen knife.
During the trial, Jonathan tries to convince the jury that Emily is innocent, but at the same time his career fails, as everyone considers him guilty, because it was he who appointed the drug. Emily agrees to the recognition of insanity , and she is sent to a psychiatric hospital instead of a prison until the psychiatrist, that is, Jonathan, recognizes her as healthy.
Despite the end of his career and the collapse of the family, Jonathan intends to get to the bottom of the truth. Gradually, he learns about the collusion of Emily and Victoria. He injects Emily a placebo under the guise of a truth serum , and under the action of a placebo Emily falls asleep. Jonathan realizes that Emily is completely healthy and feigns her depression.
After Jonathan talks to Victoria about her suspicions, she sends pictures to his wife that hint at a romance between him and Emily. Wife leaves with her son. In response, Jonathan as a psychiatrist Emily forbids contact between her and Victoria and convinces everyone that he works for another.
Emily tells the whole truth: she hated her husband after his arrest, accusing him of having lost their fortune. She seduced Victoria, and they began a romantic relationship. Emily told Victoria about financial frauds that she had learned from Martin; in return, Victoria taught Emily how to pretend to be mentally unstable. Their plan was to fake the side effects of Abliksa and earn money on falling producer stocks and increasing competitor stocks.
Jonathan agrees to release Emily if she surrenders Victoria to the authorities. Emily goes to Victoria with a microphone under her clothes, seduces, and she confirms her participation in these crimes. Victoria is arrested, but under the laws of the United States, Emily cannot be charged with the same crime twice. Jonathan comes up with how to make Emily pay for her role in all this. He prescribes drugs for her with serious side effects, threatening to put her back in the mental hospital if she refuses. Enraged, Emily begins screaming about what she did so that she would not be put in prison. Behind the door are waiting for Martin's mother, lawyer Emily and the police. Emily is returned to the mental hospital.
Jonathan is happy with his family again, and Emily is in a mental hospital and looks out the window in apathy.
