Development

Design work

The social city project of the Sibcombein plant was based on the project “Left-Bank Novosibirsk” completed by the autumn of 1930 by a group of architects (D. E. Babenkov, A. V. Vlasov and N. Kh. Polyakov). Architects worked according to the guidelines of the “Five-Year Capital Construction Plan for Socialist Novosibirsk”. The settings for the operational plan for the period 1929-1930 were first approved by the Executive Committee of the Siberian Territory , and then by the SNK of the RSFSR . “Left Bank Novosibirsk” at that time (1928) belonged to “the category of cities in which all modern construction will be in the form of communal houses”. At that time (1920-1930), “Left-Bank Novosibirsk” was seen in the form of several residential complexes. One of these projects, the Avtostroy construction project for 1000 inhabitants, was developed at MVTU by students of the Faculty of Architecture. Initially, the students were supervised by the architect A. G. Mordvinov, and then the project was finalized by A. E. Zilbert. [1] .

According to the project of students of the Moscow Higher Technical School, some of the residential complexes were supposed to be sold with individual apartments, and others with communal apartments. The latter consisted of five residential buildings four floors high. Each of them was designed for 200 people. Half of the area in residential buildings was reserved for rooms for one person of 9 m², "so that they could easily be combined into two," the rest - for rooms for two people (14 m²) and three people (21 m²). The project also envisaged the construction of three children's buildings two stories high (a kindergarten for 80-120 children; two nurseries with 40-60 places). Residential and children's buildings were supposed to be connected with warm covered passages. In addition, it was planned to build a two-story building of the “building of a socialized life”, which will house: a meeting room, rest rooms and classes, a dining room, a kitchen, a central lobby, rooms for physical education and utility rooms. [1] .

The project of Sotsgorod included the construction of a factory village “according to the type of socialist, where there will be no service staff - all residents will take part in its work, management and maintenance”. The quarters of Sotsgorod represented typical residential complexes. Projects of the Sibkombayna social city were developed in Novosibsotsstroy, based on existing German projects developed by a team led by architect Ernst May . The May brigade included Austrian, Dutch, German and Swiss experts. The composition of residential complexes, in addition to 4-storey residential buildings located in parallel, should include administrative buildings and children's institutions. A place was left for green areas [2] . The project was attended by the Magnitogorsk team of designers [3] .

In 1931, they wrote about “Left-Bank Novosibirsk”: “This city is not a myth, not a fairy tale. It is already under construction. Already grown 10 buildings. Next year, when the building of a socialized life will be built, the commune houses will begin to be settled by those workers who will work at the future combine harvester plant. ”
