Crater Alexander ( lat. Alexander ) - the remains of a crater on the northern border of the Sea of Clarity on the visible side of the moon . The name was given in honor of the Macedonian king , the commander Alexander the Great (356–323 BC) in recognition of his contribution to geography and approved by the International Astronomical Union in 1935 [1] . Crater formation refers to the preectarian period [2] .

Crater Description
The crater is located north of the Sea of Clarity in the Caucasus Mountains . Lamek crater is located in the north-west of the crater, the Evdoks crater in the north, and the Kalipp crater in the south-west. To the east of the crater is the Lake of Dreams [3] . Selenographic coordinates of the center of the crater , diameter 95 km [1] , depth 410 m [4] .
During its existence, the crater has undergone such severe destruction that it now more resembles a lowland surrounded by mountains. The remains of the crater shaft are in its northwestern, western and southern parts, the eastern part of the crater is open to the surrounding area. The preserved sections of the shaft are rectangular, the most significant peaks are in the northwestern part. The highest height of the remains of the shaft above the surrounding area is 1360 m [2] . The bottom of the crater bowl in the western part is relatively flat and has a lower albedo , the eastern part of the bowl is marked by numerous small craters and has a higher albedo gradually rising to the east. There are many small hills in the crater bowl. The volume of the crater is approximately 6000 km³ [2] .
