Biography

Born in Moscow into the family of state councilor Dmitry Semenovich Rzhevsky (1817–1868), a representative of the poor Ryazan branch of the ancient Rzhevsky family ; mother - Natalia Sergeevna Fonvizina (1826–1886), sister of the Moscow governor I. S. Fonvizin . Inherited musical abilities from his mother; M. A. Boratynsky wrote: “The main thing that connected us to Rzhevsky was music, since he was a great lover and a decent violinist ...” [1]

After graduating from the law faculty of Moscow University with the degree of a candidate, he entered the service on October 27, 1876 as a junior official for special assignments under the Ryazan governor.

In 1877 he was sent by the head department of the society for the care of wounded and sick soldiers, as authorized under the chief of the society in the rear of the active army. Upon returning from a business trip, he was appointed secretary of the Ryazan Provincial Statistical Committee. In 1879, he was granted the rank of junior chamber chamber of His Imperial Majesty. In 1880, acting as the Odessa individual censor on internal censorship.

In 1881 he was appointed to preside in the Odessa temporary presence on internal censorship. In 1890 he was seconded to the Moscow Censorship Committee, then counted among the Ministry of the Interior and appointed Simbirsk vice-governor. In 1893 he was granted the rank of chamberlain of the Highest Court, and in 1896 he was appointed Tambov governor. August 27, 1904 appointed Ryazan governor. According to a contemporary:

“He was a kind, extremely noble and very intelligent man, but with a lazy, though not without working capacity. He loved to eat and treat, he loved tennis and a small game of cards in his company, and most of all he loved flowers ” [2] .

On November 23, 1905, he resigned, ran for the State Duma, but failed. Was promoted to the chamberlain [3] . He returned to the family estate Vlasyevo Zaraysk County, where in the years 1907-1910. He was elected as a public member of the Zarai district and Ryazan provincial assemblies . Then he moved to St. Petersburg, where he died from a serious illness on March 18 ( 31 ), 1914 .

His wife, Ekaterina Leonidovna Muratova, was a cousin of the Tambov and Kursk governors N. P. Muratov . Daughters: Natalia, Evdokia, Catherine, Tatiana. Great-granddaughter - Natalia Borisovna Ryazantseva , screenwriter , wife of Gennady Shpalikov and Ilya Averbakh [2] .
