During the Great Patriotic War, Hitler troops entered Mologino on October 15, 1941. Moving away from Rzhev, at the Kresty-Mologino-Apolevo-Frolovo border, Soviet troops tried to stop the German advance on Torzhok. Until October 19, the 178th Infantry Division restrained the onslaught of the enemy at this turn. Mologino was freed on January 1, 1942. Before the retreat, the Germans managed to burn almost all the surviving houses in the village. Mologino was under occupation for 2.5 months, another 14 months in the front line of the Battle of Rzhev .

Teacher Antonin Arkadevich Ramensky lived in Mologin, the author of a hoax about the great cultural and educational significance of his family { the Ramensky Teacher Dynasty }, who allegedly founded a school in the village back in 1763. Numerous falsifications of Ramensky come from Mologin, including fake entries by Pushkin on a book allegedly donated to his ancestor.

After the war, the village (which became a village) was restored, but it did not reach its former value. Gradually, the school, village council, health center, and veterinary clinic ceased to exist.
