The American and British editions are slightly different: the British edition included the studio version of the song “Coming Up”, and the American edition - the recording of the performance of this song at a concert in Glasgow (this version of the record at one time reached the 1st place on the Billboard singles chart ). In the Japanese edition of the album, the song “Eat at Home” was added as a bonus track, published as a single in 1971 in a “non-English-speaking” world.

About the album
During the period covered by the collection (1970-1984), McCartney participated in work on 15 albums: five solo albums; one album, created together with his wife Linda ; nine albums created by Wings (including a collection of the best songs of the group). Wingspan contains songs from each of these albums, as well as from several singles not included in Wings Greatest . However, the collection did not include McCartney’s collaborative work during the same period — songs composed and written in collaboration with Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson .
The album is divided into two parts: the first disc, "Hits" (Hits), contains recordings that were highly commercial success; the second disc, “History,” includes recordings that, although not as successful on the market, are more loved by McCartney fans. On the American edition, Wings performed 14 of the 18 tracks on the Hits, and only 9 of the 22 tracks on the History.
Album release
The compilation was released on May 7, 2001. The compilation was commercially successful: in the USA it reached the 2nd place on the Billboard 200 ; the number of sales in the United States exceeded 221 thousand copies in the first week after release [2] . In the US chart, the album lasted 14 weeks; at the end of 2005, about 970 thousand copies were sold [3] . The album is certified as “double platinum ” by the American Recording Industry Association (RIAA) ; also certified as " gold " in the UK, Australia and New Zealand [4] .
Simultaneously with the album, a television documentary was released, simply called the Wing Span ; the film was shown on television by many television companies in the world. An updated version of the documentary was published on VHS and DVD - under the name “Wingspan - An Intimate Portrait” ( Russian. Wingspan: Intimate portrait ) [5] [6] ; in this version of the film, more attention is paid to the story about the relationship between Paul and Linda - their acquaintance, marriage, the difficult last year of Paul’s career in The Beatles, his role in the breakup of the group, the history of Wings, the work of the group in the 1970s until the decision to dissolve the group in 1980. The film was produced by Paul and Linda's daughter Mary McCartney , who also interviewed her father, which formed the basis of the film.
