The park was created by the Japanese in its present place in 1903 and then constantly changed. The park was originally called Nakonosima Park, but in 1945, after the end of World War II, it was renamed Taichung Park. In 1947, he received the name "Park Zhongshan" in honor of Sun Yat-sen (by his pseudonym). However, in 2000, the park was returned to the former name "Park Taichung".
Inside the park there is a lake called “Moon and Sun” (an area of 1.35 hectares ), where kayak and boat tours are held for visitors to the park. On the shores of this lake are pavilions , the oldest is the pavilion "Moon", which was built in 1892. Also of historical value is the pavilion , built in 1908 in honor of the opening of the railway. In 1999, the administration of the city of Taichung Park was recognized as a historical value.
In addition to the lake, the rest of the park is covered with green meadows, trees, flowers. For citizens, in addition to water recreation, an outdoor dance floor, a children's playground, and a tennis court are provided.
Every year, from January 15 to January 21, the Taiwan Festival of Lanterns is held in the park, where the fanciful forms of lanterns take place, and the sky is lit up with grand fireworks .
